The road-horror film follows four friends along a never-ending highway, with danger lurking at every stop. A 36-hour screening loop in New York helped spark grassroots buzz. If word of mouth carries it, a few million dollars over the coming weeks could be a win for NEON.
Hot Spot, featuring Noomi Rapace in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting, opens in roughly 400 theaters with forecasts near $500,000. Critics describe it as drab and lengthy, with bursts of gore but not enough presence from Rapace to sustain a longer theatrical run. The expectation is that it will likely fade from cinemas quickly and find its audience later on streaming.
In a weekend short on certainty, Camp Miasma stands out as a niche title expanding dramatically while continuing to find its audience.
