Pulse, Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s 2001 Japanese techno-horror classic, is getting a new remake. Spyglass Media Group and Sony’s Screen Gems are developing a modern-era version, with Dave Boyle attached to direct and Parker Finn and Jonathan Fass producing for Bad Feeling.
Deadline reports that the project is set in the modern era and revolves around a new set of characters. Plot details and locale for the new version are being kept under wraps.

Pulse’s history and a prior remake
Pulse originated from Kurosawa’s 2001 techno-horror vision, which centers on two groups of young people investigating strange phenomena and deaths linked to a mysterious website. The original stars Ryosuke Kawashima, Kumiko Asō and Harue Karasawa. A 2006 remake directed by Jim Sonzero exists, but it was met with widespread critical panning.
Current status surrounding the director
Dave Boyle’s Never After Dark recently premiered at SXSW, where it won the Midnighter Audience Award; it is scheduled for release on September 25. There are no additional production updates available yet for Pulse.
